Das Ursprungsbiet der Ananas ist Südamerika. Christoph Kolumbus hat diese Frucht 1493 auf der Karibikinsel Guadeloupe als erster Europäer kennengelernt. Zu den wichtigsten Anbauländern zählen unter anderem Thailand, die Philippinen und Brasilien. Heute wird die Ananas vor allem in den Tropen kultiviert und steht dort in ihrer Bedeutung nach Mangos und Bananen an dritter Stelle.
