"Fruity Rooty pays homage to our friends at Seeberger and interprets varieties that the family-owned company offers as natural snacks."
Esin Rager, samova founder
The history of Fruity Rooty
To look back at the beginning of our tea specialty Fruity Rooty, we have to turn back the wheel of time quite easily by almost 180 years. Back to the roots, so to speak: Back then, in 1844 to be precise, Christoph Seeberger founded a grocery store in Ulm. Over the years, this grew into the well-known premium nut, dried fruit and coffee brand Seeberger. All employees of the modern family business, which is now run by the third generation, share in the company's success. The forward-looking philosophy and the cordial cooperation at Seeberger moved samova founder Esin Rager to enter into a close partnership with the company in 2017.Two years later, samova presented the fruit tea Fruity Rooty as a gift for Seeberger's 175th anniversary: a tribute to the fruity origins and modern spirit of our friends from Ulm. The exotic blend with aromatic mango pieces, spicy ginger root, refreshing apple and sweet banana - as well as mild pine nuts as a topping - consists almost exclusively of products from the Seeberger range. Fruity Rooty is caffeine-free and tastes just as good as an iced tea as it does served hot. In addition, this special recipe is ideal as an ingredient for cooking and baking recipes. "How does samova actually develop a new tea?"
We documented the most important steps in the creation of Fruity Rooty - from the first idea to the finished mixture - with our cell phone camera.(1) It all starts with inspiration: during her trips to Ulm, Seeberger's headquarters, samova founder Esin makes friends with the Seeberger product range in the showroom and says to herself, "I'd love to try a tea blend from these fruits and nuts... That could make a good birthday present!"
(2) No sooner said than done: After making a preliminary selection, Esin brews various Seeberger specialties individually in the Ulm sensory room, selecting the most intense flavor carriers. Finally, she tastes which variety of Seeberger nuts are suitable as toppings. The winners are the "mild pine nuts" because they taste sweet and float on the surface.
(3) Esin now cuts the selected ingredients by hand into a size suitable for tea and tries out different mix variations until it tastes delicious. She combines them with green rooibos needles, which act as a "carrier ingredient" to ensure a homogeneous blend.
(4) The prototype of Fruity Rooty is ready! By the way, our 19-year-old intern Liam Jake Morris came up with the fruity name with reference to the "Seeberger Roots" and the ginger root during samova brainstorming.
(5) At home in Hamburg, Esin recreates the recipe from organic ingredients in a tea cut and refines the taste experience with orange oil and natural mango flavor - Fruity Rooty is born!
