"Karibu Sun means "Welcome Sun" in Swahili. With this homage to Africa, the "cradle of mankind", we want to give hope - for our return to a united world.«
Esin Rager, samova founder
The story of Karibu Sun
Whenever the cold season announces itself and it is time for cozy hours on the sofa or by the fireplace, many people in Northern Europe have a craving for cinnamon. Thus, even in the early years of our brand, members of the samova CommuniTEA repeatedly asked for a "Christmas tea" with the spice originally from Asia, which is considered one of the oldest in world history, dating back more than 4,000 years. Our answer to this request in the early years was called "Oriental Safari" and was a simple special edition of our bestseller Orange Safari - with the addition of cinnamon. In winter 2015, the topic of "Christmas tea" reached a new dimension: we received a cooperation request from the aid organization "AMREF - Healthy Africa". It asked for a fundraising campaign for the "Flying Doctors". This project, which sends mobile medical practices built into airplanes to remote villages in Africa, not only treats sick people there, but above all also helps to build up an independent local health care system on site by providing further training for the inhabitants. It was this approach of "helping people to help themselves", of strengthening local competencies, whose primary goal is to make outside help as superfluous as possible, that immediately convinced samova founder Esin. And led to the cooperation between AMREF and samova: "We develop an aromatic herbal tea with cinnamon and African rooibos, which fits the European taste of the Christmas season, draws attention to the work of AMREF and donates 2 Euros per sold can for the health project", decided samova founder Esin, who grew up in different countries and who is always interested in inspiring people for equality with maximum diversity of cultures.
The basic idea for Karibu Sun was born, a tribute to Africa as a common starting point for people. After all, we all come from Africa: the Olduvai Gorge, located in northern Tanzania, is considered the "cradle of mankind". This is where the oldest remains of our ancestors have been found so far (cf. "the great book of evolution" by Ernst Peter Fischer). More than 99% of the genes are identical in all humans until today, clearly less than 1% are responsible for our different characteristics (compare "the beginnings of mankind" by Dr. Alice Roberts). We felt that it was finally time to face the challenges of our world together again.
Inspiration

Inspiration
»We are the world, We are the children...« Diese kraftvolle Hymne über die menschliche Einheit und die Power der kulturellen Vielfalt aus dem Jahr 1985 schrieb Geschichte – und unterstützt hier als Songpatin die philosophische Basis unserer Teesorte Karibu Sun. 1984 beauftragte Harry Bellafonte seine Kollegen Michael Jackson und Lionel Ritchie damit, diesen solidarischen Song zu komponieren, um zum Spenden gegen eine große Hungersnot in Afrika aufzurufen.
Our aromatic quick-change artist
Karibu Sun, our particularly aromatic organic rooibos blend with carob, cardamom, cinnamon, orange oil and other spices, not only tastes great pure and hot. Mixed with a little naturally cloudy apple or pear juice, Karibu Sun is quickly and easily transformed into a winter spice punch. Served on ice (for example, with our Tea-Jay on the Rocks or ready-to-drink from our 5-liter bag-in-box), the African-oriental magic potion refreshes on hot summer days.
