"Istanbul Nights takes you out to the trendy metropolis' chic clubs, where you dance into the sunrise on the shores of the Bosphorus..."
Esin Rager, samova founder
The story of Istanbul Nights
This light Ottoman freshness kick with Darjeeling, Ceylon, mint and other oriental spices transports its connoisseurs directly to the trendy metropolis of Istanbul, where modern western culture and oriental tradition meet in an exciting mix.samova founder Esin, who grew up in a variety of countries as the daughter of a Turkish diplomat and a German educator, created this blend as a tribute to modern Turkey: "In my childhood, I was often confronted with prejudices against Turks. People who had never visited this country or didn't have Turkish friends couldn't imagine that in addition to traditional life, there was also a highly innovative scene there, especially in cultural fields such as music, fashion, art and literature." The metropolis of Istanbul is the hub of this fascinating, resonant world between oriental bazaars, teahouses, chic clubs, yachts and villas on the Bosphorus, middle-class residential areas and working-class neighborhoods, majestic monuments, avant-garde exhibitions and concerts, boutiques and fashion shows. Many international creatives have already been inspired there. Peaceful coexistence while maximizing the diversity of cultures has always been a challenge for Istanbul - and is one of the main concerns of samova's modern tea culture.
Our tea blend Istanbul Nights is considered the "champagne" among samova varieties: Esin created it as a light aperitif drink that encourages celebration before a party and, with the help of the noble oriental spices, prepares the taste buds for a festive meal. She always drinks Istanbul Nights with a little cane sugar from our small samova tea glasses, into each of which a small samova teaspoon is inserted for stirring. A fresh leaf of organic spearmint crowns the tea when serving.
Matching recipe ideas with Istanbul Nights
IstanbulNights also has a lot to do with my personal history. As a half-Turkish, I had to discuss a lot with people about Turkey, even with people who have not been there at all. And it was a personal concern for me to make a tea about modern Turkey.
For me, the city of Istanbul is the epitome of "multicultural". So, I don't know how many languages are spoken there, from how many regions different peoples have migrated there. For me, Istanbul is the "melting pot" of world history and creativity, so to speak.
Esin Rager is a true multicultural child. I have a Turkish father, a German mother, was born in America and went to school in Russia, studied in Paris, lived in Amsterdam and Hamburg. Hamburg is my adopted home, I've been there on and off since I was ten years old. My tea is as muliticultural as I am. The ingredients come from all over the world, are always peacefully and respectfully combined, and taste totally delicious. (laughs)
