Summer, sun, iced tea! There are things that inevitably go together, for example hot days and cool iced tea. And the great thing is that you can make such a delicious thirst-quencher yourself in no time at all with premium organic teas from samova - with black or green teas, rooibos, fruit or herbal teas, depending on your taste and preference. There are virtually no limits to the possible variations and the teas can be topped up with juices, fruit or sparkling water if required. Always an ice-cold refreshment!
The advantage of homemade iced tea: you decide how sweet it should be
Making your own iced tea has one big advantage over supermarket varieties: you can decide how sweet you want the drink to be. Industrially produced iced tea is often very sweet due to its high sugar content. One liter of supermarket iced tea contains around 20 cubes of sugar! What's more, this classic drink often contains an excessive amount of artificial citric acid, which, in combination with the sugar, is harmful to dental health, especially in children. Therefore: make your own iced tea, choose the ingredients and the degree of sweetness. We have prepared some recipes for you.
Whether classic or exotic: 1001 varieties of iced tea are possible
The idea for iced tea and its spread is attributed to the Englishman Richard Blechynden. The tea merchant came to the conclusion that chilled tea drinks would be more profitable than the hot variety. Blechynden presented his iced tea at the World's Fair in St. Louis in 1904. It played into his hands that it was particularly hot in the US state of Missouri at the time, so the Englishman's chilled refreshment sold like hot cakes to visitors to the fair. In short: iced tea enjoyed great popularity and subsequently began its triumphal march, first in the USA and then worldwide - even though the first iced tea recipes were published in Virginia as early as 1878.
Traditional iced tea is made from Assam, Ceylon or Darjeeling, i.e. black tea, and flavored with lemon or peach juice. This is the classic, but there are countless possible variations.
Just give it a try: Iced tea with mint, melon or mango
And as already mentioned, there are no limits to the inventiveness and variation possibilities. How about pineapple, mango or raspberry and lime iced tea? Pieces of melon, berries, pomegranate seeds or mint also add variety and a fruity, fresh taste. If you use lemon, lime or orange slices, make sure you use organic fruit with untreated peel.
As an alternative to juice spritzers, iced tea can also be perfected as a thirst quencher with juices and/or sparkling sparkling water. When filling up iced tea with juices, you can also do without sugar or sweetening if necessary. Just give it a try, for example mint iced tea with apple juice or rooibos with orange juice as a non-alcoholic iced tea cocktail. Iced teas are also suitable as night versions at garden parties to top up alcoholic cocktails. Just give them a try.
