"The rugged beauty of the North Sea coast and the natural hospitality of St. Peter-Ording inspired us to create Saint Peter's fruity and tart herb blend."
Esin Rager, founder of samova
The story of Saint Peter's
In 2006, Joern and Jens Sroka, passionate hotel owners and private samova fans from the very beginning, had an idea: samova's modern tea culture was to play a central role in the planning phase of their young design hotel StrandGut Resort: right opposite the reception, where the hotel lobby is traditionally located, a samova tea lounge was to be created... No sooner said than done! Together with samova founder Esin, the two brothers designed a bright and spacious entrance hall with built-in elements of precious Corian reminiscent of the headquarters in the "Men in Black" movies, the stylish arrival point for galactic travelers. Here, hotel guests can still relax in comfortable upholstered furniture or open their laptops at one of the tables - and drink samova tea for free! An absolute innovation in the hotel landscape that attracted a lot of attention in the industry!
But tea was and is not only an important theme in the entrance area of the StrandGut Resort. samova was integrated holistically into the hotel concept from the very beginning: in the restaurant, in the rooms, in the wellness area of the neighboring dune spa and at events - a huge success! Also at the samova headquarters in Hamburg, the tasteful appearance at the North Sea was noticeable from the beginning, many of our regular customers got to know samova for the first time at the StrandGut Resort.
Ten years later, in 2016, the hotel repositioned itself even more consistently in the direction of sustainability. The main person responsible for this development was hotelier Karsten Werner, who had joined StrandGut as a partner in 2013 after Jens Sroka wanted to go new ways. Karsten rounded out the tea idea even further: Why not develop his own samova tea edition for the StrandGut Resort? He called Esin to see if she would be interested in organizing a tea workshop together with his department heads, the goal of which was to create a new samova tea exclusively for the hotel. You bet Esin was up for it! Together with Master-Tea-Jay Errol she prepared the meeting and possible ingredients. At the samova headquarters in Hamburg's HafenCity at that time, they discussed, laughed, tasted, brewed and sipped in a large group. The result was and still is one of samova's crowd favorites: Saint Peter's, the fruity and tart organic herbal tea that happily combines many northern German and some immigrant "vacationers", such as apple, rooibos, peppermint, ginger, lemon peel, fennel, hibiscus, beet, mallow and cornflower blossoms.
The samova herbal speciality, which the guests get to know in the hotel as loose tea, bagged tea or iced tea, can be bought at the reception and taken home. Thus the vacation at the North Sea still affects long in the homeland!
